Simgot EK3: Unboxing

Introduction

The EK3 is Simgot’s newest flagship IEM, also representing their first foray into balanced armature technologies. Simgot has traditionally built their IEMs with dynamic drivers so this is certainly an interesting though not unexpected direction they’ve taken.

Product details: http://www.simgot.com/en/products/detail/19.html#!/detail

MSRP: $370

Driver specifications: 3BA, 2 switches per side

Release date: 10th July

The EK3 will be released to US customers on Amazon. For those interested but outside the US, you’d have to contact Simgot at [email protected]

Non-audio opinions

My unboxing posts are pretty much the only times I’ll ever talk about build quality, accessories and the like. I’m not really the person to ask about these things as I don’t really care about them that much.

Accessories: cable, tips and leather hard case.

Cable: 4-core wire in a tight round-braid configuration. Ergonomics-wise it’s fine, a little rough on the skin but nothing that breaks the deal.

Connection: extruded 2-pin connection similar to that of the old UE connectors, though not I’m not sure if they’re identical. Will be a pain to find cables for but IMO this is sturdier than MMCX or flush 2-pin, though still not as sturdy as recessed 2-pin.

Build: Practically seamless shell, completely filled with acrylic, metal nozzle. Very premium finish, no complaints.

Fit: The shape of the shell is “pseudo-custom”. Fits me well and I can get a relatively secure and deep insert. Should be comfortable for you if your ears are as large and deep as mine.

Summarised impressions

Full review to be released tomorrow, so this is more of a summary of that than the usual “initial impressions” post.

Due to the release deadlines, the full review will not be available for Patrons on early access and will instead be released publicly from the start.

  • Bright-neutral signature, characterised by a midtreble peak
  • Switches don’t do much, if at all (refer to measurements for specifics)
  • Very standard “reference” kind of tuning, focus on detailing and clarity but not so much on being natural
  • BA timbre comes through per expectations, bass remains relatively limp and unnaturally quick

Measurements

Due to the multiple switches and configurations available, I won’t be embedding the graphs here. Visit the dedicated page instead.

Thanks to all my readers who have supported me on my Patreon. Special shoutouts to my big money boys Denis, Phil, “McMadface” and Jonathan.
