Moondrop Blessing 2: Unboxing

Introduction

You guys have been begging for this for months, and now it’s finally here.

At this point, I’ve touched on Moondrop IEMs so many times that doing an introduction on the company would just be another copy-paste job. So let’s just skip that and focus on the Blessing: past and present.

The original Blessing (which I shall now shorten to simply “B1”) was the first Moondrop IEM I ever listened to and one of the very few to truly impress me. That said, it was not a perfect IEM and there were a lot that Moondrop could improve on, looks and build included.

The Blessing 2 (B2) is the update to the iconic-yet-forgotten original, sporting a whole new build courtesy of Heygears. Heygears is a 3D-printing specialist based in China, most known for their 3BA Anora model before they’ve (presumably) dedicated themselves to the OEM business. The precise nature of the acoustic tubes within the B2 are a testament to the new manufacturing process, and overeall the B2 looks far cleaner than the porcelain-esque design of the original.

With a shiny new suit and a new coat of paint, the B2 looks ready to take on their newly-acquired fanbase. Does its sound match up to the improved aesthetics?

Non-audio opinions

My unboxing posts are pretty much the only times I’ll ever talk about build quality, accessories and the like. I’m not really the person to ask about these things as I don’t really care about them that much.

Accessories

  • Canvas zip case
  • Tips
  • Airline adapter

Cable: 4-wire, tight round braid. Prety soft with no kinks.

Connection: slightly recessed 0.78mm 2-pin connection. Basically flush, so might be a weak point down the road.

Build: full 3D-printed build with metal faceplate. The faceplate seam might be a structural weak point, but overall the shell looks fully filled and so no complaints in terms of apparent durability.

Fit: pseudo-custom. Perfect for my ears, but your mileage may vary.

Isolation: average to above-average, relatively isolating.

Initial impressions

  • The two big issues of the B1 has been addressed in the B2: bass impact and midrange shoutiness.
    • The difference in bass impact is probably the biggest evidence of FR not being the only metric for “perceived volume” of specific frequencies; the B2’s has significantly more impact and texturing despite the B1 measuring with higher bass levels on FR.
    • Upper midrange is reigned back, reducing the shouty nature of the B1.
  • Very, very solid IEM overall. Probably belongs in the same conversation as the S8.

  1. So this or the s8? If you could buy them at the same price and get 1 ble2 free?

    Haha.

I have heard and seem pictures of the faceplate coming off more than once now… scared to pull trigger

  2. Wow! Do you think the B2 could be A-A+ on your list of Technicalities and tuning? If so, that price point makes it really a threat for competition.
    Be well

  3. I’ve been waiting on this impression from you. I’ve been looking for a complementary set to my Fearless S6Pro and this seems to mark all the boxes for me. DD for bass with about 5db increase in bass and about 5db lower at the 4.5Khz mark compared to the S6Pro. Not sure about how these will stack up resolution wise but have been wanting a hybrid set and this seems to sit right where I was hoping for. Thanks for the great content.

  4. Just looking at the FR, the B2 seems to be a set of IEMs I would really like. Waiting for the full review 🙂
